Open/Close Port...?

what is the command or how can i open or close any port...? Also how can i check which ports are opened and which are closed...?

Heres a port database:

Just to make sure u know what ports you are opening and closing.
A firewall system such as zone alarm will let you open and close ports.
Its also possible to open and close ports using a router.

XP comes with Internet Connection Firewall built in. You can close ports with it.

The firewall with XP isnt very configurable.
Theres also an application that you can ruin to tell you what ports are open and it also lets you close them but I can think of the name, its freeware and I run it on my home PC. Any idea what the name of it is?

I wanted to defend carr's point that the native ICF is configurable. It might have a high p.i.a. factor, but it is certainly servicable.
