OK, I managed to start a backup onto a tape with data on it. I cancelled it 7 seconds into backing up (it may have been listing the files at that point, but not sure). Now, if I recatalog the tape (an ecrix) it's only showing the one I cancelled in the list of media. I know the cancelled backup could not have physically erased the existing data (which was 100s of megs), but it isn't making it easy to retrieve it. Is it possible to get the data back easily?

Thanks

Dan

Actually, to put it simply, is there a way to access the actual contents of the tape rather than relying on ntbackup to recatalog the tape? It's as though any ntbackup-specific reference to the original data is now gone.

Thanks

Dan

Of course the only data potentially lost is the portion overwritten. If NTBackup doesn't work, worst case you'll have to engage a third party vendor to recover what they can off it. But chances are you can do something yourself. Look for third party tools like Media merge and see what you can do..

Thanks, I'll give MediaMerge a try!
