I have a 2 drive library however when i manually schedule 2 clients to backup themselves by selecting "run immediately", one sits "waiting" for resources while the other backs up. It's not clear to me why it doesn't mount a blank scratch tape into the other drive.

Plenty of tapes in the scratch pool..
Both drives are online and a part of the same master pool..
Both drives are "enabled"..

any thoughts?

Streams (Data writer) settings on your storage policy set to 1?
I have mine set to = the number of tape drives in my library

I also have multiplexing set to 2
I have 6 drives running 12 concurrent jobs (2 to each drive)
Works for me....

Thanks! Mine was set to 1. I take it there isn't a way to set it to # of drives (i.e. automatically). I have to simply set it to however many drives i have manually?

I tend to avoid multiplexing with backup products since it can slow recovery time. It's a nice tuning feature but in my environment the amount of time the backups take isn't a high priority on my list of concerns.

I have a limited backup window
Our application folks do not want CV eatign the user bandwidth.

With 198 client server I am pushing 2 libraries (^ drives each) pretty hard

I think you can set the option number of writers to maximum, and this should use both drives. If not then putting the streams to 2 will definatly fix the issue
