Hello All,

A question was asked of me by my Bank executive types. We have two sites that have s8700/g650 set ups. We have two DS-1 ties between the sites. Each site has their own inbound call center traffic. One site is in Boston, the other in Dallas, and I was asked if an IP phone sitting in Boston can be registered to both the Boston S8700 and Dallas S8700, simultaneously. When I asked why, I was told they wanted to be able to have a group of extensions receive calls from either switch. I suggested utilizing AAR and the tie lines, and they rejected. They don't want to utilize the tie lines for this traffic. Is this possible?

Avaya CM 3.0
4621 SW IP Phones

Can I purchase another piece of equipment to do this? Can SIP help?

All help is appreciated. Thanks.

TBG

I think you were on the right track. I don't you can do it without using the tie lines. Of course, I learn something new everyday in the Definity world.

In short no. The phone will register only with a single clan at a time.

This can be accomplished in many ways (UDP, AAR, ARS et al) however not without utilizing some type of trunking between devices.

Dunstan is right you can only register to one clan but if this is to use with normal calls (not acd) what about creating the same extension in both switchs one will have the actual phone and the other an extension with a coverage remote to the logged phone. (small details like dial plans, site connections, etc needs to be consider but who knows what the executives have in their mind). If it is for resiliance then the dhcp server could have a list of different clans (one for each site) and in case the first one goes down when the phone rebots and doesn't find the first clan then it will go to the second one.

I should have mentioned we are using ACD through Genesys CTI. TServer 7.2 via MAPD connection

I don't think the phone can reqister with 2 clans but you could have all ACD calls come into the larger sight A and use multi sight BSR to route calls to the right agent either sight A or B. This is going to use your tie lines for all ACD calls that need to go to sight B. The agents that need to answer calls for both sights will have to be multi skilled.

My call center is very similar. Agents spread over a few sights some groups only in remote sights, but all calls come into the "main" sight and route from there. Works well!

Might want to consider IP trunking to move some traffic if your TIE's are very busy.

Hi TBG

Just a tip.
Maybe you can use the IP-softphone or IP-agent application to register the user in boston on the switch in dallas.

When u use the telecommuter option you can set up the DID number of the phone boston.

In this option you can use all ACD functionalities in boston.

Let the customer decide if he want to pay cost by routing the telecommuter calls through the ISDN network or pay no costs by using the tie line.

goodluck

tbg247,

if you have two switches running cm3, why don't you merge them into one distributed system? an ideal way to accomplish what your bosses want. :) wouldn't cost much money either, provided that both switches are on current software.
