OK had an incident that I fixed but trying to understand why. Ive been using the onboard network card for a while but discovered I was not getting the speed I was supposed to get. Well there was a few things on their end(isp) but the other part was my onboard network card as it would not get the speed it was supposed to get. I put in a new one in the pci slot and it got the speed its supposed to get. Just wondering why the onboard did not achieve the speed it was supposed to achieve.

Also for those of you wondering what happened to me I had my computer go down for a couple of months getting things replaced lol. Im now in college so been busy lately.

The onboard network stuff has to feed through interconnect chips. Anything there can slow down throughput.
It is also possible that the software can be out of date or get corrupted.
My personal choice is to disable the onboard stuff and use a bus based NIC. YOu then deal with the NIC board manufacturer for updates rather than the M/B manufacturer.

Makes sense. Thanks.

hmmmm, never heard of a onboard nic causing issues with speed. I guess there is a first for everything.

Was puzzling to me as well. I might later on try a driver update and see if that by any chance fixes it. Nothing major though as the problem is gone since im using pci network card lol. I just asked as I was curious and I like knowing why things do what they do.

My "internet" died about a month ago on my ECS mobo. I ended up shoving in a PCI card. The "onboard" checked OK with every test - just didn't work! Works fine with the NIC card. I'm happy - computer's happy.
