Onboard or PCI sound installed but not working

In a Soltek MB there is AC97 for VIA and device manager shows it as OK.. it was loaded from the MB CD..
However, in SOUNDS in Control Panel no device is selectable..

I then used a Yamaha PCI 724a card and installed the drivers from the CD as well.

Same thing.. no selectable audio device..

Any ideas on this??

I would suggest updating you driver and BIOS. Then Check for compatability with the OS.

Thanks... but I bit the bullet and reinstalled the same O.S. and MB drivers (including audio) on another similiar HDD.. and everything worked fine...
Clearly a windows "blockage".. but just weird how the Device Manager gave the green light yet the Sounds/Audio device was ghosted out..
