Tower: Fulltower ATX CX-6171-RX w/PS 230W

My main office computer, which was normally always shut down and then switched off at the mains (wall) switch at night, always used to start up again the next day with a single push on the push button at the front of the tower.
Since a large-thumbed male switched the computer on once (one time only, about a month ago) the computer doesn't always start up as it should *. It sometimes needs several presses, or 1 x press and then 1-2 x press on Reset.
(* The computer sounds as though it is starting up, but no signal is sent to my Sony flatscreen monitor until I press the button again a couple of times or press the reset button)
I presume the switch mechanism has shifted. Not having the correct switch "in stock", would there be any foreseeable (voltage/ampere) problems if I replaced it using a push button (on/off toggle) switch from an automobile (got lots of them spare)?

there should be no problem with voltage/ampère because the atx switch is only switching a signal of maximum 12 volts (don't know exactly, probably 5v) to the mainboard. the only thing you have to look is what kind of switch it is (it only may give contact in the time you're pressing the button). and there should be no integrated resistors or anything like that because then the mainboard perhaps could not recognize the signal. but which switch has that?!

You need a momentary switch, not a latching one... The only automobile orientated ones I can think of that would be suitable are the ones used for operating the electric windows.
