I have just loaded unix openserver 5.0.6 in a new box.
when I create the tape drive (sony sdt-5200 scsi tape drive) using mkdev tape it gives the "idmkreg: error updating space.c file for Stp" it then relinks the kernel etc. normally but when i try to use the tape drive it is not listed.
man idmkreg indicates that it uses the sysRegistry file in /etc/conf/cf.d. i have checked this file and found that the Stp0 reference was not listed. I added the entry with applicable path and nodes using vi but it continues to give the error message and not list the drive.

can any body give me some direction on this issue?

thanks for your help.

I found an answer in the sco knowledge base. TA # 104978 gives a solution for the exact problem.
