Hi!

I would like to know if I can install W2K pro on a slave HD and then run the HD ( as a master) on a another computer. I know this kind of stuff doesn't work with XP, but it might work with W2K.

Thanks in advance

Not unless they are identical machines. Whay are you looking to do this?

Hi! Thanks for your answer. You've just saved some work.

My problem is that some old computer won't read the cd-roms and thus I can't install the OS like I normally do.
I've tried to install different devices to no avail. Something weird is happening.

I have another question, is it possible to install w98 ( using the slave-HD "technique") and then apply an upgrade (from 98 to XP)? Actually, what I'm hoping is to be able to use the cd-roms via windows. I know, it sounds kinda unlikely.

What do you think?

TIA

Are your PC's on a network? If so you could do a network install by putting the image off 2000 or XP on a network drive. Also did you try replacing the cd-roms and I believe there is a verison of Linux that will run from a usb drive. If that sounds interesting I can look it up.
