What if I have clients in vlan 2 which need to get dhcp info off a server in vlan 1. How do I point the router in vlan 2 to hit the dhcp server for vlan 1 clients? We are tight on money, (can't afford another small server even).

Hi there, hope this helps.

1. On the switch port that connects to the router you must enable ISL trunking.

2. Create 2 subinterfaces on the router interface that connects to the switch and enable ISL encapsulation on those.

3. Assign IP addresses to each subinterface. Each subinterface should be in a different subnet.
