ole object error

I have a reports 6.0 report that retrieves a long raw field to display a photo on the report. In developer the report works fine, but when running the report in runtime I get an REP-4004 error, error occurred while converting ole object..
the oracle database is 8.0

I cant find any information at technet.oracle.com to lead me to a fix for this...

any assistance would be appreciated
