I have a user called John Doe who's current AD User account has an Exchange account JDoe@msn.com. A couple of months back, JDoe's company was under a different domain, and his logon name was different as well (then it was NYCJDoe@microsoft.com). We used the migration tool to migrate the accounts to the new domain (microsoft -> msn) and after successfully migrating we renamed the user. Everything else works fine, but only in Exchange (outlook), when I type in the "To:" box "John Doe", the box shows the following text: "John Doe <NYCJDoe>" and it thinks that is his e-mail address. Then it tries to e-mail that address which doesn't exist and it returns back to sender with an unknown user account error. I want it to recognize John Doe as "John Doe <JDoe@msn.com>". Just for FYI, I checked the user's properties (including all exchange tabs) and could not find any reference to the old account info. When I use outlook and I see the old info, i push delete and it then will give me the new correct info, but the next time I send an e-mail again the same thing happens with the old account name showing.

Thanks.

Quit your Outlook and navigate to c:documents and settings\<your username>\Application Data\Identities\Microsoft\Outlook and find outlook.nk2

If I've got the folder wrong, search for that file anyway.

Delete the file.

Start Outlook.

See if that cures it.

Lemme confirm the steps:

Reboot from saved image. once logged on, BEFORE opening up outlook, delete that file, then start outlook?

PS - I am looking now and I don't see that file in my space.

Is that ok?

You don't need to image in fact - it is basically a name cache for Outlook.

Show all files and search for .nk2 Delete the files that is in the folder I tried to note.
