OK, here's my question, I'm trying to establish a PPTP connection from home to my network. I connect just fine, using snapgear firewall that acts as a NAT, VPN, and a firewal. When I connect I can ping all the computers using their network IPs 10.0.0.x. I cant use their DNS names, how do I get it to work so I can ping actuall computer names? Thanks for all your help guys!

Look at your scangear firewall, make sure it allows netbios to occur over the connection. This may help.

When you connect via the VPN, do an IPConfig. What DNS server are you pointed at? If it's NOT the DNS at your target environment, you will not be able to ping by name as there is nothing to resolve the names at your traget.

Configure the VPN server to hand out more than just an IP address - DNS, domain name, Wins(if available) and Wins mode. In eefect, you're configuring DHCP scope options for the VPN connections.
