offline domain controller

how can I login to a domain controller if it doesn't have access to the network. It was moved from one site to another and they forgot to change the ip. I assumed it would use a locally cached account from us logging in before but its not and wont allow anyone in. I have tried fooling it by setting up another server to act as a gateway to the domain using the gateway address stored in the dc but it still wouldn't connect to the domain. Any suggestions.

can you create a "closed" network in a lab somewhere using the old IP configuration?

I gave in and just moved the harddrive to another machine and copied the files I needed off of it.
