Hi All,

I have run around in circles with distributor support, knowledgebase, and other people.

Have a client with IP Office 7.0(36) Embedded mail, using 5410 phones and has Comcast regular pots lines.

We have entries in the System Directory as well as some of the user's personal directory. When the call comes in, is there a way to relate the caller ID to the name they use in their System or Personal Diretories? For example, if they get a call from Joe on his cell, they see WIRELESS CALLER 212-555-2368 but in the directory it is built as Joe Smith Cell with 912125552368 as the number.

In the line tab I have prefix 91.

Can I give them what they want? Would another app help such as soft console or even setting up oneX for the one guy who really wants it?

Thanks

These numbers do not match so the name Joe Smith Cell will not be used.

I think you can bracket out numbers to be dialled but not matched, so (91)2125552368 in the directory will result in a match and be able to be dialled....I think (I have no access to a system or Manager right now to verify) :)

Doesn't the carrier supplied name override the system directory though?

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

Good point, was "favour directory" an R8 improvement?...I think it was :)

Yes. Although I am running 8.1.43 and have the selection checked and no luck here either.

So far, the only place I have had it show is on SoftConsole during incoming calls. I happen to have Phone Manager PRO on this setup and it does not show.

He actually would like it on his phone screen, not pc.

mikedphones, did you see my earlier comment regarding bracketing? :)

Caller Name Matching
Directory records are also used to associate a name with the dialled number on outgoing calls or the received CLI on incoming calls. When name matching is being done, a match in the user's personal directory overrides any match in the system directory. Note that some user applications also have their own user directory.

[ul]
[li]SoftConsole/Phone Manager applications have their own user directories which are also used by the applications name matching. Matches in the application directory may lead to the application displaying a different name from that shown on the phone.[/li]
[li]Name matching is not performed when a name is supplied with the incoming call, for example QSIG trunks. Release 8.0+: On SIP trunks the use of the name matching or the name supplied by the trunk can be selected using the Default Name Priority setting (System | Telephony | Telephony). This setting can also be adjusted on individual SIP lines to override the system setting.[/li]
[li]Directory name matching is not supported for DECT handsets.[/li]
[/ul]

Reading this then if the name is presented on the trunk then the directory look-up is not used.
So take a trace with system with the ATM filter enabled and see what is presented on the line while a call comes in.

Thanks guys, I will look at this again tonight as well as brackets and let you know what the result is.

Mike,

Caller ID and Directory Number Name Matching used to work back in IPO R4.x
Ie. 12125552368 "Wireless caller" would come in from telco, 12125552368 "Joe Smith Cell" would be in IPO Directory, therefore 12125552368 "Joe Smith Cell" would be displayed on Phones since incoming number matched.
Is this what You were after? It no longer worked after R5. I was told it would in R8, but I haven't tried it, as it has not been asked for in any of the sites yet.

If Comcast lets You override the supplied Name for certain numbers, this would be easiest, and cheapest solution for Customer.

Hi Andre, Intrigrant

Thanks for the replies. Intrigrant, I saw your reply and it seems like I am chasing something that can't work. I think if I install an instance of Soft Console for just him, it will work on his PC, but not satisfay any other interested user, or maybe even him if he doesn't want the screen popping up.

I have been on another project and away from this one, but it still looms.

This weekend on my 8.1.43 I had mixed results. I would say 3 out of 5 times I received the directory name in manager rather than the telephone company supplied clid. I have no idea why. I would just dial the same pots line from my cell and it wasn't 100%.

I did find that it was more likely to work after a merge for some reason. It just seems to come and go randomly through the day. Sometimes it says "wireless caller" other times, it says the name I entered in the directory. I call from the same cell to the same pots line every time.

I currently have:

System > Telephony > Default Name Priority > Favor Trunk (seemed to work better for some reason)

Line > Analogur options > LoopstartCLID, Auto impedance check to 600 result, currently unchecked long clid

Line > Line prefix > 91

Directory > Phone number is entered as 91(2125551212)

My Phone line type: Verizon Fios (yes I know that's a problem, but for this, it seems to work).

The Customer has Comcast analog handoff, IPO is 7.036 Combo card, 5410 phones.
I am asking Comcast to kill the name part, still waiting, but curious to see if they will fill it with something line "not available" which could still be seen as name delivery to the IPO, or, if they have a way to simply send nothing in the name field.

Maybe just make a directory listing with the digits received by the IPO and label it "Joe Smith Incoming" and then another directory listing labeled "Joe Smith Outgoing" and train the users to only use the outgoing listing for making calls. Redial and such probably won't work, but at least the name shows up?

I have dreamed a dream, but now that dream has gone from me.

Hi Hovus,

Thanks for the suggestion. no luck. :-(
This may be just a lost cause on the newer releases. I think when he had a 4.2 way back on a 500v1 it did actually work rock solid every time.

I am still waiting to see what Comcast will do to the incoming clid that may help too.
