I’ve noticed that if you print something to a printer other than your default, Word will continue to print to that printer until it is changed by File>Print. This happened in Word 97 when working within the same window, but would reset when Word was closed down completely.

This problem makes the print icon button useless if you want to revert to the default printer unless Office is shut down completely, including Outlook. (Also, right-click a file to print with Word closed -- same thing.)

Thanks, Bill!

Any workaround here? All service packs for WinXP Pro and Office XP Pro are installed.

I LOVE my print icon button, but you couldn’t tell by some of the language when that happens.

The work-around I like in Word 2000 and WordXP/2002 is to go to Tools, Customize, and click on the Commands tab. Then go up to the tool bar with the printer icon, click on the printer icon and drag it into the Commands window on the right. Next, find in that window the Printer icon with the name Print..., grab it and drag up to the toolbar. That gives the same window as if I clicked on File, then Print, and I can choose anything I wish.

Tip, any time you see a menu choice with 3 dots following it, it means another window with choices will open. That applies in most MS/Windows programs.
