Office XP killed Access 97 1

I used to have Office 97 installed and upgraded to XP to try it out.

When the 30 day limit expired I uninstalled XP and tried to reinstall Office 97. Everything works fine except MSAccess. When I try to run it I get no splash screen, just an alert saying:

Microsoft Access can't start because there is no license for it on this machine."

Any suggestions short of a full format & reinstall?
