After I cloned (Ghost) my old hard drive onto a new SATA drive, several components of Office XP Pro became problematic, and Outlook would display data but not allow changes or new entries.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Office XP Pro from the original CD and now, although everything seems to run OK, whenever I start up Outlook, Excel or Access I get a message asking for a file on the XP Pro CD. The file is pro.msi and is not on any of the 3 Office XP Pro CDs.

If I just click the cancel button, I get past the messages and the apps seem to run OK, but they're a nuisance.

Also, I can't run the downloaded SP3, and in fact, even my Office XP SP1 CD won't install.

Does anyone know what's happening here and how I can fix it to get rid of these annoying messages...and, oh yes, getting SP3 installed would be very nice too.

Thanks,

S

You're right! This time I used the Office uninstall utility to completely wipe out Office, then deleted the Office directory (oops, folder), then used a registry cleaner to tidy things up, and finally rebooted and reinstalled Office XP. All of the annoying messages are gone.

Now, if I'm lucky, I can download and install SP3 w/o the usual problems.

Thanks,

S

Aaarrrgggghhhh! I downloaded Office XP SP3 but the installer crashed, with a message to the effect that there was a problem with Office Installer. Fortunately, all of the Office XP apps seem to load OK afterwards.

Is SP3 a cumulative update, or do I need to load SP1, etc in sequence?

Thanks again,

A
