For some reason, when I open a file in Excel, or Word, as soon as I use the pull down (look under) menu, the program freezes for a while, then the pulldown will finally "pulldown" with the directories.

Any ideas on why this might be happening?

I'm using windows xp, and office 2003

it's usually caused by slow network connections or having unavaliable drive mapings on your machine.
Go to windows explorer and chack all of your network drives are connected properly

Thanks, stupid thing is, I had that problem on my computer and knew it to be the cause, but I forgot I had mapped a drive on her computer. :-(
