I had a little shortcut bar at the top with Word, Excel etc icons. I see in the Office directory the Shortcut Bar subdirectory with all of my shortcut icons but I don't know how to start the shortcut bar again.

Start > Programs > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar

It's not there. Can I download it from somewhere?

What OS are you running?

As it appears there are a variety of ways to go about this based on Office versions, you might also try this:

"Click on 'Start,' then on 'Find,' and then on 'Files or Folders'
A new window will pop up. In the 'Named' field, type in Shortcut Bar. Change the 'Look in' to the C Drive.
Click 'Find'
When it is done searching, you should see "Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar." Double-click on it.
The Office Toolbar should not appear."

You also could try Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Remove (or change) MS Office, the when the installer/uninstaller starts, choose Add or Remove Features.

Seems the directories where this thing belongs are gone. Probably our corp. desktop admin police are cutting all trees to the same height so the forest will be equal. I hate corporate PC policy. Thanks for your quick replies and all your help. You have been very kind.

Along this same line I have no OSB since having Windows 98 reinstalled 3 days ago. I installed Office 97 and have looked here C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Shortcut Bar - but there is nothing in the shortcut bar folder. There is no shortcut bar in start\programs\microsoft office tools. There is no msoffice.exe. Does the OSB come from the Office suite CD or from Windows 98? I have CDs for both if someone could tell me where on one of the CDs to look for the OSB. Thanks.

I wound up using the "Quick Launch" toolbar that windows provides. Right click on the bottom toolbar and choose Toolbars/Quick Launch. You can put this new toolbar at the top, at the bottom or even the sides and choose "always on top" if you want.
