Office Data Administration System Station Designator

If anyone would care to take a moment and explain in plain speak the meaning of Office Data Administration System Station Designator (DES) and how it should be used on an Opt 11c.. TIA

It's 6 alpha-numeric caracters you can use any way you want, some people use it a cable pair des,Floor Des, what ever.

We use it for the department abbreviation as well....

Thats what I thought, but a very few of ours have labels that match the jack ID (ie V34 for example) which helps me a lot! but others have something like JK18 with about 22 TNs showing the same DES. This helps me not!

I wish I could make my job easier, but admin-ing this system is not my job I am just doing the little things that I can to save the company from hiring the vendor for everything little thing (sorry to you vendors, you deserve to be paid!)

Another downside of doing this for only as a minor part time gig is that I have no equipment or knowledge of how the system was set up.
Any idea how I can translate the DES's listed below (in the first column: (Turns out that only ONE DES has the jack number! GRRR)

On further examanation I think I can trace the wires well enough to match TN to jack (without tone generator).. so I am on track now, thanks!

This would be a very easy change with Procomm. Do you have any experience with Procomm Scripts?

We set our DES to departments for easy inventory of sets, because we have multiple departments and multiple buildings that may have the same jk # (Setup that way previous).

I didn't review your print out very closely, but are any of your sets in a ACD?

This procomm script should do the trick for you. I would test on a couple of phones first. I have been using a program called ZOC and am a little rusty with Aspect now.

I do not recommend performing Easy Changes on ACD sets. Some here do it with zero issues, but I would advise you not to, just to be on the safe side.

Yes some are ACD. Since my intent was to match a TN to a physical jack, and I can do that now, I think I will stay away from such large scale changes for now.. I'll save the script for reference though.
Is JK a standard notation for DES fields? At first I thought it was a jack number but there is ZERO correlation in this system between the JK# in the DES field and the labels on the physical jacks.

As stated, there is no set standard, just what ever you want. If you want JK001A or just V001A, it doesn't matter. If you are going with Jack numbers then I would match it as close as you can with your physical outlet labeling.

Oh.. One other note. To learn to play with scripts, you don't need to do them all at once. You can try your phone and the switch room phone as test phones.

Start small then progress up, but the scripts can save you hours of work in some situations, so you should learn them at some point.
