Hi All

What is the situation with licensing? A number of PC's in the office have this version installed. What if we upgarde to a newer PC - can we use the same Office Version or what if for example the hard disk fails and Office needs to be installed onto a new drive.

Its probably a stupid question but I cant find any information in relastion to this. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I understand that there is some way of contacting Microsoft and telling them that you have upgraded hardware, etc. As I understand it, and I'm prepared to be corrected if wrong, there are around three component changes allowed before MS think it's a new machine, and hence it won't install.

I'm unsure on how we mere mortals prove to MS that it's an old PC that we have upgraded, but I'm sure someone out here will tell us how...

If the Office SB versions are OEM, then they live and die with the first PC on which they are installed. You may carry out some upgrades without triggering the need to reactivate Office, but a HDD isn't one of those. If you have to renew the HDD, then you will need to reactivate both Windows and Office. Almost certainly you will have to do this over the telephone rather than on line. We have never had any problem doing this with customers' PCs when they have failed HDDs. Microsoft are only after serial copiers.
