Hi, can someone please please help.

I am currently working on a PC image ready for uploading to around 50 HP dx5100 desktops pc's. The image so far lets us enter the xp code when the user turns the pc on for the first time.

I now need to figure out how i can install Office and then set it so when the user turns the pc on for the fist time it prompts them to enter the code of which they will need to get it off the cd.

Hope you can understand what i'm trying to do here.

Thanks.

Roger

Hi RogerPatel.
Do you use volume licensing, or do you have a separate Product Key per user?

Hi Mate, thanks for the reply.

No we dont have Volume licensing, we have 50 boxed HP Pc's and 50 OEM Boxed Office 2003 Pro sets, each cd has its own Product Key.

I have so far made an image of XP sp2 so when the user turns its on it runs the Mini setup and asks the user to input the key off the sticker on the pc.

I want to install office so when the user launch's a office application for the first time it promts them for the product key (they will then need to get their cd and use this key.

Thanks

OK. All my experience has unfortunately been with administrative installations using volume licensing, and I've just found this comment on the MS web site:

Note Only editions of Office 2003 acquired through a Volume License agreement or other non-retail channel allow you to create an administrative installation point. You cannot run Setup.exe in administrative mode (/a) with an Office 2003 retail edition.

cheers mate, looks like i have managed to do using the Office Pro 2003 OEM Preinstallation kit.

It's pritty simply and looks like its worked.

here's the basic steps,

Install Office using "setup.exe /q OEM=1"

this creates a c:\swsetup folder and copies all the office files to the pc.

it then launch's the Office install, install a complete office using the product key supplied on the MS OEM Pre-Install Guide"

copy the oem11 tools to a folder on the pc

edit the oem11.bat file, add the product key and code and destination folders.

Once office is installed, do not activate it, just update it, sp1 + windows updates.

run the oem11.bat file, this resets the office install so when any of its apps are next launched it prompts for a product key and username.

Thats it, hope this helps someone one day.

But i would be really greatfull if someone could confirm this, i surely cant be the only person on the forum who's needed to do this.

Thanks all

Roger
