I have a Windows 2003 Server running with Office 2003 installed on it. I create a Group Policy on my main OU and import Office 2003 Administration Template. When i make some modification to the setting through myu GPO and apply them nothing happen the setting stay in its original state. Form example i tried to disabled the Recent Files option so i make it disable in my GPO but when i start Word and go to Options -> General the change was not made.

Any idea ???

Oh by the way all my users log on to the server through Terminal Service and are running all the application directly on the server.

I think you are getting confused by the double negatives.

If the Policy is Disable Recent File List then you would want to ENABLE the policy to be able to DISABLE that setting. In other words you are turning ON the policy that says to DISABLE something.

By DISABLING the policy you are undoing any settings that may have been set.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

No this is not the problem because if i choose Enable i must choose how many documents i can view and i set it to 9 just to make a test and it doesn't change on my user config to 9.

Two things to check after you have set it.

First, verify that the policy is reaching the desktop. You can run GPRESULT to determine that. If it is not getting pushed down, force it down.

On XP:
GPUPDATE /FORCE /BOOT

On 2K:
Secedit /refreshpolicy machine_policy /enforce
Secedit /refreshpolicy user_policy /enforce

Second thing to verify is the security settings of the GPO. make sure that the Apply is checked for your test ID and that DENY is not checked for any gorups that your user ID is a member of.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Yep made all this step and even generate a report within Group Policy Snap-in and all said that the settings i have changed are applied to my user! Think i will have to call Microsoft for that.

Looks like you are mixing apples and Oranges. The GPO will disable recently opened files on the O/S. This will not influence the Number of files that show up in your Office suite. That has to be configured separately
