The secretary in my office complained her machine often locked up after typing upper case i. The machine has to be hard reset, loosing what she was working on. It happened more in the morning but not every day. So after updating the PC-cillin & doing a full scan & finding nothing I guessed it might be hardware, so I changed bits until evenutally I changed the whole PC!! I was in the room loading the last of her files & another girl came in & said the same thing had just happened on HER laptop! Help! One PC is a generic PC running 98, PC-cillin & office 2000, the other is a Dell laptop running 98 & office 2000. Any ideas??

I guess I could say I'm having a similar problem. It usually happens when the caps lock key is pressed. I have asked the users to stick with the shift key.

When the caps lock key is pressed windows drops to the blue screen of death and CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't even work. Hitting the power button doesn't even work. You have to push the power button and hold if for a few seconds.

The frustrating thing is I've tried other keyboards and I really don't want to have to reinstall the system because im not even sure that will fix it.

This machine is also running windows 98 2nd Ed. Office 2000. It looks like a windows software problem.

You don't happen to use Symantec PC Anywhere do you?

PC anywhere was not installed on the secs. PC, it may have been on the laptop, I'll have to check. Our machines don't blue screen, they just lock, totally! As you say, hard power off. But not all the time & it has only started within the last few months, well maybe 5 months tops. It seems to happen with the shift key, not just the caps lock. Surely we cannot be the only people to suffer & have noticed this?! But I can't find any other comments about it anywhere......
