I recently wanted to reinstall Offfice 2000 on a machine running Windows ME. The "Remove Office" process appeared to go OK, but now "Microsoft Office 2000" still appears in the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS list, the Programs (Word, etc.) are gone and I can neither install ("Another installation of this product already exists on this computer, use Add/Remove Programs to remove it before proceeding") or complete the uninstall (Windows Installer comes up asking for the Office 2000 CD instead of the REPAIR, CHANGE or REMOVE option screen). I've tried Eraser to no avail.

Any silver bullets out there?

Hello!

A nasty looking problem but hopefully I can help you. Often, if a program still shows in Add/Remove programs it usually means you will havve to edit the registry.

I had a look on Microsoft's Knowledge base and found this article:

Looking at method 1 it says delete the appropriate key! Not sure which one! I have never heard of the TweakUI PowerToy mentioned in method 2 but after a quick google I found this:

It appears you need Windows XP or Windows 2003.
Do you have XP?

Hope this helps you.

Good luck

oops, just saw you had ME, not XP. The article I mentioned from Microsft should be fine for ME.

Good luck
