We're using win2000/office 2000 on a network with Novell 4.81 client. When we're trying to open up a Word,Excel,Access,Powerpoint file. By clicking on File, open you get the pop-up box with where you want to search for the file. The look in box drop down takes so long to drop down to pick a location. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening. It doesn't happen on Win98/office 2000 systems.

Thanks,

Kathy

Kathy,

I am having this same problem w/ a Windows 2000 Professional O.S. SP2 Client, running Office XP Professinal. The below link:

Depicts the following:

IE 6.0 wants to run a schelduled task everytime it connects to a server. This results in slower browsing. To disable this delete the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace\{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}.

I picked this up in a training class for windows xp, it does apply to machines running IE 6

This did work for awhile. However, whenever we rebooted the client in question, this key would re-generate itself. However, upon initial deletion of this key...file access performance via an office application did improve greatly.

I tried re-installing the entire Office XP Suite...and that worked for about 2 days.

Please keep me apprised of any solutions that you may have come up w/ concerning this anomaly.

Thanks,

Unknown if this is still an issue, but I have resolved my slow file access anomaly.

The problem was w/ a mapped network drive. The client in question had a mapped network drive on it to another client's c drive. After removing this mapped network drive, the file access sped up considerably. After re-mapping the network drive, slow file access occurred.

Hope this helps.
