Office 2000 asking for CD every time a user logs in

Ok ... This is getting a bit frustrating so I thought I would bring the problem to the board.

I have done installs of office 2000 before (Windows 98) where each individual user that logged into the machine had to run a small install for themselves (which did require the cd) but the install I am currently having problems with is every time a user logs in (even if they have run through the install proceedure before) they are required to do the install proceedurce AGAIN. Every time.

Has anyone else experienced this problem

Try to uninstall office.
When you do the reinstall... choose Custom.
Make sure you add all the files to the harddrive. See if that fixes your problem.

Everything is already set to run from the hard drive. I make sure to install everything so the users don't have to worry about the cd. Thats why this problem is so annoying. Good suggestion none the less. Sadly this install was done less the a handful of days ago.

Here is my 2bob bits worth - hope it helps......

I've had this before, we have approx 2000 - 3000 users using various versions of Office. What we have found is that for some reason Office 2000 wants to install for every profile on the machine.

The only solution we found (well, quick and easy) was to re-install Office 2000 but using the Repair Office function. 99 times out of 100 it worked. For the small percent that didn't work it was a complete re-install.

Like I said, quick fix but we don't have the luxury of sitting down with it as we reckon its possibly registry somewhere.

One thing we did find was that if 2000 was installed using Norton Ghost from image build Office occasionally asks for the install disc for each user profile.

Its a pain!!!! Hope this helps a little
