This is the weirdest thing I've ever seen, after completing a clean install of Windows 2000, defragging the drive, and installing Office 2000, when I try to open an office application, the computer freezes completely. I'm not able to bring up task manager, or do anything else - just turn off the pc.
I tried so many things, uninstalling Office 2000 and re-installing it, completely installing Win2000 from scratch by fdisking and reformatting, logging on as administrator and/or user; still the problem persists.
Anyone out there has any idea as to why this is happening? Anything will help.
Thanks,
Diego

Try changing your video driver. That's what's probably is causing the problem.

After further digging and digging on the installation and looking into the device manager, I found out that the audio drivers picked up during the installation were not the correct ones.
When an office application gets loaded, the office assistant triggers the audio drivers. By not having the correct audio device, the system would just freeze.
GO FIGURE!!!
