Hello

I am writing to ask for general advice about Office 2000 and Office 2003.

I have Office 2000 installed on my PC and, over the years, I have created quite a few files in Word 2000, MS Access 2000, etc.

I am hoping shortly to install Office 2003 and wonder if my Office 2000 files will be safe. Will I be able to open them with Office 2003? For example, a document created in Word 2000. Can I open it in Word 2003?

Also, do I need to uninstall Office 2000 before installing Office 2003, or will Office 2003 simply 'sit' on top of Office 2000 (or go over it)?

Before I take the plunge and actually install Office 2003, I would be grateful for advice on any other pitfalls which installing it may entail.

Cheers and thanks.

Install/upgrade with 2003 will ask if you want to remove the old apps. I have yet to find anything that did not work after an upgrade.

Word and Excel should both be fine. Access has never played nice between versions that I am aware of - There's always something that will play up eventually.

You can install both suites alongside each other, or simply upgrade your existing one. Either way though you can only have one version of Outlook on your machine, and if you only have one office suite, make sure you use the same version of Outlook as Office, ie don't use OL 2K with Office 2003 or vice versa. It will work but there are all kinds of issues that it will bring with it.

Many thanks to you both.

I will install Office 2003, make sure everything works and is compatible, then remove Office 2000.

Thanks for your advice!

Best regards
