What am I doing wrong? Need to gain access to stored messages from off site. With 'return to AA' set to yes, I just get into a "please enter the mailbox number" loop never getting to anyware I can put in a password. With 'return to AA' set to no, I get a "exiting system, goodbye". Sure it's a simple tick box I've missed, but I'm lost.
Any help?
Thanks
James

when you press ** (the prompt says to enter the mailbox number and the password followed by number sign)then you enter the mailbox number and password, and follow the prompts

the return to aa is used so that when you are in the mailbox you can press * to return to the aa to call another ext

Hi fireeater problem is message says "enter mailbox number" doesn't ask for password, or mention #. !!

if it just says enter mailbox it sounds like you just pressed *

when you hear the aa voice (you have reached abc company)
then hit ** that's "star""star"then you should get the correct prompt

Thanks guys, yep definitely two stars - I've tried many 'phones, including real DTMF devices where I can send long tones, and still the same result. I'm wondering if I need to zap the startalk and start again?

Hard to say... Could be bad hardware, sw card, or carrier.

To test, you could loop an ata to a trunk port, and call the ata to get into vm.

That method is hard coded, no options to change how it functions.

Here's an oldie of an ITAS Tip. Sounds like your symptom.

Message Retrieval From Voice Mail

Retrieving messages from outside the Norstar system when the line has been answered by the Auto Attendant.

While in the Auto Attendant and you wish to open your mailbox to listen to your messages you should press the asterisk(*) twice within 500ms (1/2 second) of each other.
The following is what happens if these two asterisks are dialed too slow.
With return to Auto Attendant set to YES the first asterisk tells the system you wish to leave a message in someone's mailbox and the second on tells the system you wish to back up the last option, which is the Auto Attendant, allowing you to start over again.
With return to Auto Attendant set to NO the first asterisk tells the system you wish to leave a message in someone's mailbox and the second one will cause you to exit the system, in which case you will have to call back to call back to the system.

The return to AA Menu Prompt is under Feature 983, select AA then GRTG then AA to allow you to toggle to YES or NO.

It could also be DTMF recognition in the Flash.
You can try different options by logging into F983.
When you see Mbox AA Other, press 8 on the keypad.
This is used to set the DTMF tone length that the Voice Mail considers a valid digit. Raise to decrease talk off. Lower if tones are not registering. Default is 48 ms. Industry specification for DTMF tone duration is 80ms.

HTH!

Your last post is kind of what I was thinking, SD. That's why I suggested looping an ATA.

Might be easier to fiddle with the timer though.

Star.

Curiouser and curiouser! I’m sure startalk is seeing the dtmf presses, if I press only once I get a “using the keypad” message, twice I get a “please enter the mailbox number” (but no password prompt).
SupportDude, I cant get to the DTMF length setting you describe. If I press 8 at the ‘mbox aa othr’ prompt, I get a password request!

It's not letting me put in 2 stars - Soon as the 1st is pressed, it give me a "using the keypad, please enter the extension" message, during ths message, or even before it starts if I press the 2nd star I get to the "please enter the mail box".
So even if I enter 2 stars within 1/2 sec I'm stil getting to the 2nd prompt.
Is there a very basic option I've not set which is needed to allow DTMF access to voice mail?

have you tried to enter the mailbox number and password followed by the number sign when you hear "please enter the mailbox" it could be the rest of the prompt is corrupt, but you still may get in

From the label it's a startalk 180 2 port Rel 01, so that sounds like a very early flash version. Is there a feature code to show the detailed version number?
I think this weekend I'm going to give it a real talking to and a hard reset to see if I've made a fundimental programing mistake.
I cant remember if the remote access has ever worked on this dedevice, or if the last tiem I used it was on an even ealier HD version!
Thnaks for all your input. I'll post on Monday when I've started again.

If it's still running after that long, give Nortel a pat on the back. A couple decades of service far exceeds most other equipment on the market.
