OE Address Book - Synching with Palm OS PDA's

I have used the Works / OE 6 address book to synch with a Handspring visor edge PDA running Palm OS. I get a mass of blank records at the begining of the Address book on the pda. It turns out that there were masses of records with blank last names in the Address book which didn't appear on the Works / OE 6 display (visible because I displayed on a Star Office StarCalc database screen). I exported into *.csv, deleted the records with blank last name fields and reloaded into the Address Book from *csv having deleted all the records from it. There were no blank records at the begining of the Address book on the PDA after synching , but all the information other than the name disappeared ! Anyone shed any light on what's happening ?
