OE:0177:00006655 Error Message WinME

Running WinME on Dell 4100 PentIII 866 MHz with 75GB HD. After browsing a while, the system often slows way down and, if I don't restart, freezes.

When I restart, which is frequently, it often stops with a blue screen and the message:
"WINDOWS An error has occurred. To continue:
"Press Enter to return to Windows, or
"Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart your computer. If you do this, you will lose any unsaved information in all your open applications.
"Error: OE : 0177 : 00006655
" Press any key to continue."

If I continue, it will finish the restart. I sometimes restart again 2 - 3, or even 6 to 8 times, before it restarts all the way without that error message.

Any suggestions about the cause, or how to correct? Thanks, Ed

HI

A Fatal Exception 0E is a Page Fault interrupt and typically occurs when the operating system tries to access virtual memory on a demand-paged basis and that "page" is missing or damaged.

This could have happened because of HP printer driver, HP CDR driver.. if you have any of these.. try to download the latest drivers from a downloadable site and try. You can atleast try if the error occurs after uninstalling these drivers.

Thank you for your suggestion, ramani. I downloaded the latest driver for WinME for my HP LaserJet 4L printer, and installed it using the Add Printer Wizard.

For two restarts, I thought maybe it had done the trick, but on the third restart, the same error message came up, so I guess I am still looking. Any suggestions, anyone?

P.S.: One curiosity that perhaps should be mentioned. Dell Tech Support suggested I run msconfig to uncheck devldr16. I did that, and use selective startup, but after restart, devldr16 shows up again on Ctrl+Alt+Del and shows up on the Start tab of msconfig.

I am sure you may have found this by now..I will post it anyways..This is a response to a customer who was receiving error message similar to yours..

Do a search for devldr16.exe. Rename all occurances except the one in Windows System directory.

If that does not fix the error then please do the following.
Boot to Safe Mode. To do this reboot the computer and press the F8 key once every second. This will bring up the Windows Startup Menu. Select Safe Mode and press enter.

Uninstall the Sound Blaster Live! software by using Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
Remove all entries for the SB Live! in the (Start > Settings > Control Panel > System) Device Manager. This includes entries in both Sound, Video, and Game Controllers and Creative Miscellaneous Devices.
Remove all old sound card listings in Device Manager.
Delete the following files from the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory:
EMU10K1.VXD
SB*.*
CIFMAN*.*
SFMAN*.*
CTSYN*.*
CTWT16.DRV
CTMM16.DRV
A3D.DLL
DEVCON32.DLL
AC3API.DLL
Rename *.bin to *.cli in the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory.
Rename EMU10K1.INF to EMU10K1.CLI in the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory.
Rename CTMISC.INF to CTMISC.CLI in the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory.


Please turn off all the background programs that are loading, especially any anti-virus or crash protection software. The easiest way to do this is:

1. Click on the Start button on the task bar and select Run.

2. Backspace over what currently is listed in the Open box, type: MSCONFIG and click 'Ok'.

3. Click on Selective Startup.

4. Uncheck each of the boxes this highlighted and click 'Ok'.

Shut down the computer and take the SB Live out of the computer. Reboot 3 times. Then put the sound card back in the computer.
Restart the computer and then reinstall the drivers when the card is detected.
Once the drivers are installed, reinstall the SB Live! software.

If this does not fix the problem please let us know.

Another USER solution was posted elsewhere and MAY work..

Solution 2:

Search for devldr16.exe in c:\windows\system then delete it Do not restart your system. Install the SBlive drivers using the autorun from the Sblive CD shipped with the system Restart after the installation is finished. And everything should beworking correctly

Thanks for the suggestion, Smitee.

In my case, the PC does not say that devldr16.exe has caused the error message I keep getting -- it's just that devldr16.exe keeps showing up on Ctl+Alt+ Del list despite unchecking it in msconfig. I only mentioned it because it seemed anomalous.

In any event, I did try the fixes suggested. For a short while, I thought it might have helped. No such luck.

My system still memory bleeds, and I regularly have to reboot to keep from slowing way down or freezing.

Thanks for the thoughts. I am still open to suggestions.
