Odd Problem 1

I have built and serviced PC's for years and never seen this one, perhaps someone can help me save what little hair I have left,

The PC will not let you open My Computer or Control Panel, other programs work normally, you can open DUN and connect to the web, you can right click on My Computer and get into the device manager, but no Control Panel and you can't open My Computer, even tried right clicking and OPEN and it just sits there, nothing odd running, everything looks normal.

Any ideas?

If you're using Win 98 and the problem happened within the last 5 days, then start at a command prompt, type scanreg /restore and press Enter, select a Registry that predates the problem, and press Enter.

If the problem happened more than 5 days ago, then reinstall Windows over itself.

If you're using Win ME or XP, then do a system restore.

You might want to look at the registry entries. To view/edit the registry, click Start -> Run -> Type "regedit" (without the quotes of course). Here is a link that might help you edit some registry settings:

One important note, though. Editing registry is not for the faint-hearted. It is also strongly recommended to back-up your registry first before doing anything with.
