ODBC vs SQLOLEDB

Hello.

When I try this with SQLOLEDB Provider :

UPDATE Table1 SET var=var1
SELECT MAX(Column) as MaxNumber

I get an error, but not with 'old' ODBC drivers.
Any suggestions?
