ODBC driver for Lotus Notes

I'm looking to connect a Lotus Notes/Domino Designer database to Visual FoxPro 6.0 so that I can create some reporting and graphs. Does anyone have any idea if there is an ODBC driver out there that will allow me to do this? I can't seem to find anything on Lotus or Microsoft's sites.

If it doesn't work you might try shortning it after manager and do your own search. The site gives it as NotesSQL 2.06 Driver for Notes. It's listed as driver 21284. The download appears to be about 1911k.

Thanks for the link Dave. I see in the readme file that it is supposed to work with MS Access, but do you know if it works with VFP?

An ODBC driver should work with any windows program which can access ODBC, that's what the term means, Open DataBase Connection (or something like that). If the driver's installed on your system, you can use it with VFP, VB, Access, etc. I don't have any notes databases on my system, so I can't test it, but the driver installed in my system quite well. So if I ever DO have a Lotus database to look at....

Because of my FoxPro connection problem with the ODBC driver and the remote view (the other thread you answered), I decided to look at the readme file for the ODBC driver and found this in it:

This Lotus Connector should only be used with Microsoft SQL Server. A future release will add support for Microsoft Access 2000 (JET) databases.

Even though you said "An ODBC driver should work with any windows program which can access ODBC," although it's true in theory, Lotus says it should only be used with SQL Server as it has not been tested for anything else. Also, in order to use the ODBC driver you must have Domino Enterprise Connection Services installed from what I can now see from their website.

So, FYI for anyone interested in connecting up to Lotus using ODBC through FoxPro, I'm not so sure there is a tested ODBC driver out there to do it.

Hope that helps anyone else going through the exercise I just went through. If anyone has any info contrary to what I found, please let me know.

Ok, stay tuned . . . . .it appears that ODBC driver listed in Dave's first note is just very out of date. I'm trying to download the SQL3.0.1. ODBC driver to see if this will fix my issues. I'll post the info if it does for others in the future.

Well, I'm getting a bit confused. I thought you wanted to get VFP to be able to access a Lotus Notes database, not get notes to access a VFP database. Those are two different things and require different ODBC drivers. If you just want Lotus to be able to access VFP. then the VFP driver which should be added to windows when you install Visual Studio or VFP should work, assuming Notes can use ODBC. If it can't it sounds like a Lotus problem. The essence of ODBC is that there's a common way of addressing data which will allow any ODBC consumer to connect to any ODBC provider which has a driver available. I guess the drivers can be faulty or consumer programs not properly set up to use ODBC, but I know that at least VB, VFP and SQL Server 7 can access VFP tables using the VFP driver I've got installed.

No, you are correct. I am trying to use VFP to access Lotus Notes. I'm pretty sure I do need the Notes driver - the driver you originally pointed me to is a very old, outdated one (NotesSQL 2.06) and was only recommended by Lotus for use with SQL Server.

I think what I need is the new one which is NotesSQL 3.0.1. What's confusing is that the Lotus website does not crossreference anything and it's hard to figure out what exactly it is you need to be using. On top of that, the Lotus website keeps dying at the point where you accept the agreement to download the ODBC driver. It appears that there is no where else to download it from and no one has bothered to answer my email about fixing the problem with their server at Lotus/IBM. It's very frustrating.

Once I get this more recent ODBC driver downloaded, I'll see if this solves my problems with the remote view.
