obtaining Cisco CDP With SNMP

I have a script running to backup my cisco switches and routers. its all bash and ping sweeps the first 20 addresses of users subnets if theres a response it will try to connect with the community strings i setup to tftp the config off for safe keeping all works great, but i have got some cisco devices hanging off some of these routers / switches that are on different forgotten about subnets and wondered if anyone knew a way to snmp get a list of cdp neighbours , this post might need to goto linux forum maybe but ultimately is a cisco issue.

any ideas would be great
