Our parent company configured the router that connects our network to thiers (Cisco) as a time server & port 123 is blocked so the NW 6 server can no longer get time from Boulder. I testes the Windows XP PCs & they can sync with the router, but the NetWare 6 server gets an unable to connect message ???

Here are my settings: (IP address changed to protect the innocent)
TIMESYNC Time Sources: 192.168.1.1:123;
TIMESYNC Type: SINGLE
Default Time Server Type: SINGLE

Any ideas?

if it's post sp1
then the ntp client port is also specified
so it goes out on 123 but comes back on a specified port
default to 1024 - i think

there is a tid on this - if you type exact error on timesync screen - it comes up but basically specify port and open it

I read the TIDs related to timesync errors, di dnot find one to fix this.

The time server on our network is a cisco router, there are no firewalls between it & the NW6 server, also - the WinXP PCs work fine.

Any Ideas?

TID 10011518 goes over how to set up NTP time sync for a single server in 5.x and 6. This ought to get you going. Nothing special about the time source being a router AFAIK. NTP has been a standard, well, longer than I've been around ;) If you really want good time on your network (and who doesn't!) consider a GPS unit from someone like Truetime. There are GPS units with dial backup, lets you close up the port on your fw and have better time internally so WAN circuits will work better, servers will be happier, etc.

confused me

how can your cisco router be time source
where is it getting the time from?

the xp ones are they going there or is the time service going to microsoft

I hope this may help.

We use a time source across a WAN and my Settings/ parameters (adapted for your IP) in TIMESYNC.CFG are...

Configured Sources = ON
Directory Tree Mode = ON
Hardware Clock = ON
Polling Count = 3
Polling Interval = 600
Service Advertising = ON
Sychronisation Radius = 2000
Type = SINGLE

TIME SOURCE = 192.168.1.1:123

Are you sure 'Configured Sources' is not set on

Thanks everyone. I got it working. (It was a ID10T error on my part)

Terry 712-
The Cisco gets the time from an NTP server on the WAN & provides it to our LAN so that traffic doesn't need to go thru the routers. Our parent company configured it that way, I didn't realize a Cisco could be an NTP server either ;-)
