Hi.

Attempting to install base 4.11 on new Compaq/HP Proliant hardware w/ 5300 or 532 Smart Array Controller is giving "cannot find public symbol" errors during attempt to load drivers for controller.

I read in another thread on this forum that pre-loading some components of SP9 will help with this but I don't know the details. NW 5 is not really an option at this point because I don't have license for it and don't really want to purchase it for something I only need for another 9 months.

Does anyone have some suggestions to work through this ?

Thanks in advance...

I presume you are supplying the driver files from floppy disk? If so, just use the default ones that come on the NetWare 4.11 CD for now. When the server is built, then you can apply SP9 and update the SCS drivers. -----------------------------------------------------

Tried that...The default drivers with 4.11, CPQS710 or CPQDA386, won't work on a Compaq Smart Array 5300. Unrecognized controller. I don't have a controller that the base 4.11 drivers will recognize.

The driver I do have for the 5300 is supposedly good back to NW 4.2. Which I guess is why I get the public symbol errors when trying to load on a base 4.11 install.

I guess I either need older 4.11 drivers for the 5300 if they exist, or load whatever SP9 components needed at the point of the base 4.11 install to get the current driver to load - if that's possible.

Am I S.O.L. ?

Fyi...for any interested, this is what worked for me.

Provided updated NWPA.nlm file (version 2.37 versus 2.31 base)from 4.11 SP9 install to NWUPDATE directory prior to executing install routine. This allowed me to load my 5300 drivers without the "public symbol" errors...
