Hey there-

I just put a spare computer together and the only minor problem I'm having with it is that when I shutdown, the NumLock light on the keyboard stays on. The computer itself seems to shutdown properly.. all the other lights go off. I've tried two different keyboards, and both had the problem. If I flick the switch on the power source off and back on, that will turn the light off. Very minor problem, just kind of odd.

It's running Windows 98, and I'm not sure what type of motherboard this is. Any ideas? I can't determine if it's maybe a BIOS setting or if Windows isn't completely shutting down properly or what.

Thanks for your help.

You have an ATX formfactor M/B. Some power stays on after you power it down (except when you turn the switch off). Bios settings for wake up may be set for keyboard, in which case the keyboard would have to stay hot. Ed Fair

Sounds good, they also maintain power to cmos to preserve battery life when possible. Basically, not a problem, mine does it as well - it's designed in. Obviously if you aren't going to use the computer for any length of time then hit the main power switch for complete 'offness'. My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my knowledge. Andy.

Mine used to do it too with my old motherboard. Everyone used to keep telling me about it when I switched it off ("oh, are you sure it's off...") that was the only annoying thing!! I couldn't see any Bios setting to stop it, so I just left it and had no problems.

My machine has only started doing it since installing ACPI. It could be to do with the speed of the shutdown?

Do you have ACPI installed?
