Hi All,

I have a report that needs numbering but I can't seem to find the correct formula or is there a function that counts the report:

e.g.

OLD SINGERS

RANK NAME
1. Springsteen
2. Bowie
3. Plant
4. Idol

NEW SINGERS

RANK NAME
1. Spears
2. Benningfield

How to I get to automatically generate the "Rank" or numbering in my report?

Your help is deeply appreciated.

Are these groups or individual database records?

Software Sales, Training, Implementation and Support for Macola, eSynergy, and Crystal Reports

"What version of URGENT!!! are you using?

If you have a group on singer status (old/new), then you can insert a running total that counts any recurring (non-null) record, evaluates for each record, and resets on change of singer status.

Thanks lbass but how can I evaluate for each record? Rank is not included in the database. Also how do I reset on change of status. Could you show me some routine please?

Thanks again for your help...

The running total becomes the rank. Go to the field explorer->running total->new. In the first section, choose count of {table.name}, in the second section, leave it at "evaluate for reach record". In the third section, choose "On change of group"->select the field that you are grouping on in order to create the new/old singers results.
Place the running total in the detail section.
