So I was working on my system, which was workinf (XP Pro) and I just installed another drive the other day. Well the system began to freeze again. I opened it up and found I hade set the new drive to slave but the master drive was at Cable selecft. The computer was already turned off so I changed the setting of the master drive to Master from cable select. The next boot I get "NTLDR is missing press CTRL>ALT>DEL to restart". After restarting, same thing. HELP. I have had a bad month with this thing. At this point I unplugged the slave drive and got the same thing. Now I set the master drive back to cable select and kept the slave drive unplugged and windows came back. I am so confused by now it's not funny. I can not get my slave drive back. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Thanks Bill,
Turns out after all this, I reconfigured Master to cable select. Win XP came up finally. I then reconfigured slave drive cable select and it seems to be working although device mgr says This device is working properly the device usage is greyed out with nothing written in it. Should say"use this device (enabled)". Anyway thanks for the help. You always seem to be there in a pinch. I don't know what is going on. I do know something is still not right. I can't put my finger on it but like "My Computer" comes up and all my drives are listed, but they are no longer seperated by lines. They are all together (floppy, Hard Disk and DVD, CD) No seperations. No apparent problems yet, but not how it was. My "DVD Xcopy" no longer works but I feel good that I can at least get computer up and windows going and can work again.

iquickdraw,

And if in Explorer or My Computer, you select View, Arrange icons, and click Show in Groups?
Still no lines?

Bcastner,

After doing that simple little task, I have the lines again and they are arranged just like before.
When I grow up I want to be just like you.

Thank you very much. You know just when I think I have a handle on this computer and Windows XP stuff, I discover that I am just now qualified to start learning.

My sincere thanks for everything Bill.
