I'm using the native w2k backup software. I'm backing up over 20GB of data and choosing hardware compression (20:40 drive). The backups say they are successful and i am not prompted for a second media. I noticed a few files today that were not backed up.

DO i need to leave hardware compression unchecked and use two tapes ? The drives are SCSI but not enabled for compression themselves.

Thanks

Using compression or not for your backup will not cause files not to be backed up. Files are usually not backed up because they are opened exclusively by an application or part of the Windows operating system. If the files have names including WINS, DNS, or DHCP then they will always be busy with the OS.

It's possible someone may have been using the application when the back up occurred. If the tape was full it should prompt for a 2nd tape.

Just wanted to verify.

Thanks
