I have a user who has somehow gotten some files that cannot be accessed in his share on an NT Member Server.

The files were originally copied to the directory from a MAC using Apple Talk and Mac Services, but this was ages ago. We tried to access the files from a Mac... just in case it was a "Mac Thing"... but get the same result.

I have tried to take ownership of the files, directory, everything I can think of. I've done this as Local Admin and Domain Admin with no luck.

I get the error message "Access Is Denied".

What could be preventing access?

I've had success in this situation by being logged in as a Domain Admin on a Windows 2000 box (that is a member of the domain obviously) and then trying to take ownership.

What could be preventing access?

All access permissions have been removed.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

You need to add the Administrator or Domain Admins to the permissions of the file/files first and then you can take ownership.

Hello,

I had this problem and found I needed to run checkdsk before I could take ownership.
