Users computer is not on network, he has forgotten NT admin password on local machine, any way of accessing the O/S ?

there is a website where you can get a bootdisk which will replace the nt password (boots up a mini-linux kernal) - can't remember the URL but it was around the site somewhere - it does not read the existing one, for that you'd have to use something like crack (?) and it may take some time - this one can take less tham 5mins as long as the hardware is not too special.
hope this helps

If you have another account with administrator privileges (such as a domain account), logon to the machine with it then go to a DOS window. Type in the command:

Net user username {password}

In other words, if your local admin account was called "Admin" and you want to give it a password of "123XXX":

Net user Admin 123xxx

You should receive the message "password changed successfully". Now logon with the local admin account using the password that you just changed it to.
