I am in the process of migrating users from NT 4.0 domain to windows 2003 AD. I have set up the environment for these migration and everything worked perfectly. I suspended the migration as I had another project to do. When I returned to the migration project this is what happened:

1)To migrate the computers from the NT domain to the AD domain I have to log on to the AD DC with an admin account
from the NT domain. when I tried it i received an error message. The system could not log you on because the NT domain XYZ could not be found. But I can log onto the NT domain controller itself and I can also log onto the NT domain from a workstation in it's domain.

Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

Do you have a trust setup between these domains ?

Do you have WINS and DNS Configured correctly on the NT4 Domain ?

Yes, I have trusts set up between the 2 domains. WINS and DNS are also running fine. The funny thing is that I have 3 Active Directory Domain Controllers, DC1, DC2, and DC3. I can log onto DC2 and DC3 using the NT 4.0 domain credentials. It is only on DC1 that I cannot.

I'm assuming you have got WINS / DNS etc on the W2K Servers,

Check Replication Partners for WINS
