Hi All

I am getting the following error message in my backup log file in the morning after backups:-

The backup is scheduled to run at 21:00hrs
I have tried different tapes
I can do a manual backup alright

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Chris

What software are you running? Are there any events in the event log? You need to supply more information please.

I am using the bundled ntbackup software on w2003 server.

I have a similar problem but it will only happen on some days. My backups run automatically and some nights it will work fine. When I discover it doesn't run, my ntbackup logs show up blank. On the same tape, I then either execute the schedule manually and it will sometimes work or I run ntbackup manually and it will sometimes work. Sometimes, I need to reexecute the backup multiple times because it just stalls at Mounting tape... I only have that problem on one server... It's driving me nuts !

Have you tried scheduling a backup for a time during the day when your there. Staying logged on and trying to watch where it fails.

The problem is with Remote Storage.
There are a couple of hotfixes you can apply. I hav had this issue on two different servers, the hotfix fixed one but not the other.

(a) Microsoft knowledge base article 841187

2nd knowledgebase article may not apply to you

(b) Microsoft knowledge base article 831664

I also have found that the RSM does not refresh the media change correctly. Currnelty I am working on this issue anbd have found that if I clean the drive daily I do not get media mount failures.

Hope this helps

Well like it I said, it will sometimes run fine and not at other times. Nothing changes... I'll try the hotfixes. I did need one hotfix a week ago for 2 other servers that were running W2k3 standard on a ait1-50GB/1000GB that just wouldn't backup ANY file. That problem has been solved, now it's this one... Now the problem I difference with this server is that it's running on SBS w2k3.
