Hello,

we have had instability with inventory for months. Running Legato 7.3.2 with FC to a SUN Storagetek SL48 library.

I have read in another thread ( that his solution was wrong SCSI ID. What was meant by this? Doesn't the SCSI IDs get set automatically?

I noted someone stated the server itself needs to be in the servers file on the server. I am not sure if it is. Maybe this is the root to all the bad?

Any other suggestions here? Can we rule out the hardware (library)?

Regards,
atle

Hello Atled,
with Windows your SCSI IDs can change with every reboot if e
Windows finds scsi targets in a different order.
Therefore you shoulp use a so called persistent mapping.
You need the tools of your FC HBA manufacturer to do this:
SANSurfer with Qlogic or hbaanywhere with emulex HBAs.

Is your Library direct Attached or connected via a FC Switch ?

If your Lib is direct attached its a good idea to set the FC Speed e.g. 2 Gbit. IF both devices are configured for autosensing it can be time consuming to establish a link.
Both devices should be configured for the same connection type, e.g "Point-to_Point" or "Loop".

If possible separate Disk an Tape access to different HBAs.

hi,

Do Emulex have instructions how to set up persisten mapping? Do you know of one on the Internet?

The library is direct-attached. After we changed to full FC drivers, it has been stable. Let's hope it continues. Otherwise it can be the hardware in the library itself, or we need to make persistent mappings.

But persistent mappings or not does not explain why the connection suddenly went down, right? Persistent mapping only makes sure the drives and library is discovered in the right order at booting.

We have tried setting the speed to 2 Gb, but it still failed. At the moment it is auto-sensing again. Connection type is also set at auto. We will change these at next oppurtunity, but I hope this does not have anything to say for the present moment (as I wrote earlier, I think this is only important at booting).

No disks are accessed through HBA.
