On my workstation I am running XP Pro with NW client 4.83 SP1..my local server is NW 5.1 running IP. My client is installed with IP and IPX support. I can log into local servers just fine. Now, my remote servers (different tree) are running NW 4.1..since changing over to XP from 2000 I can no longer log into those servers(even if I am on site). on the advanced tab I can see the tree, context, server but still will not allow me to log in. I never had this issue when running 2000(same client etc.) I can't even launch RCONSOLE from XP, it says no servers found..

any help would be appreciated

Thanks

check your slp

go to a dos box - type slpinfo /all

if you type ip address instead of server - can you login - should still be able to login with the ipx though

doesnt xp suck

If you're using IPX, one problem I've seen with XP is that it doesn't pick up the correct frame type and network segment correctly. This causes problems especially when IP is not configured with SLP or other service location methods.. You might have to force it to the one (frame and segment #)you are using. This can be done in the NWLINK IPX properties for your NIC.

- Internal Network Number -- should be 00000000
- Frame Type -- Match with the frame type on server, probably 802.2
- Network Number -- Match this to the network segment running on the server, as displayed by the CONFIG command at the server console.

Thanks

marvhuffaker, that worked perfect..you know I didn't even think to look at the card, I thought it was a client issue..You know looking at the NIC I noticed that when installing the Novell client it unchecks NWLINK IPX from the adapter..I done remember that happening in 2000..

Thanks for the tip.
