I'm trying to add a new ip phone to an Avaya IP Office 500 and currently am unable to add the phone(5610sw). Phone displays " EXT:NoUser BN "- I then select the only option presented on the phone "login". Enter the user ext and password. After doing so I get "invalid".
 
The port does not have an extension configured.
If you configure it the same as the users extension number then it will log the user in automatically for you.

It's an IP phone, Peter :)

Check if the user has a corresponding H323 Extn in Manager (in case you turned off auto create). Make one if it's not there.

Other than that, it could be that the phone needs a fresh start.

Reset:
Press the MUTE + RESET # (on the keypads that would be Mute + 73738#)
Wipes out the IP address, extension number, speed-dial, call logs, etc.

Clear:
Press the MUTE + CLEAR # (on the keypads that would be Mute + 25327#)
It's like a hard reset.


You can also do this in the boot sequence:

Press the * key when your phone is booting up.
Press the # key multiple times to skip through all the defaults until you get to the screen that says “Enter Command.”
Press the HOLD key and then type RESET #
Press the # key to confirm the reset.

or

Press the HOLD key and then type CLEAR #
Press the # key to confirm the reset.

I'm onboarding an IP PHONE not a digital phone, I thought all I need is the switch port to be tag with the right VLAN.
 
When an IP phoe shows no user then you did not configure a user with the same extension number :)

Only digital and analog extn are available without further programming.

As I said in my intial post, check the h323 extn list. Make one if it's missing.

If it is there, delete it and the user, then create a new one from scratch.
